I must admit, although we're using MathsWhizz, I'm still relying a lot on maths games (including money and cuisenaire rods that they like playing with) to make it appealing to them. I'm sure you'll get there though - the longer we spend getting to know our chidren & how they learn, the easier it gets to help them :) No rush - plodding is good ;)Yarwohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03098749995710313233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8830837025531932611.post-46295255390500065242012-09-19T09:05:14.956+01:002012-09-19T09:05:14.956+01:00Very interesting post, especially as maths is my m...Very interesting post, especially as maths is my main area of concern with J too. He just has no interest in it and, as an Aspie, if there is no interest then there is no effort to learn on his part. It's a real struggle, I'm sure that he is able but he just doesn't want to do it and as a result even the simplest stuff is a struggle. I do feel that he needs to learn the basic stuff like number bonds and times tables (although I have to admit, long division isn't high on my list - I never got the hang of it at school and there is usually a calculator around if I need one!) As for maths curricula, well, again it's a struggle, he doesn't like workbooks and the online programs are fun for a couple of weeks and then he loses interest, so I'm very cautious about paying out for more. It's a conundrum for sure. I'm torn between the idea that he really needs to learn this stuff NOW, and trusting that he'll get it when he's ready. I guess I'll just keep plodding on with it for now, and see where we are in a few months time.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04290653909989504581noreply@blogger.com
